We worked closely with the homeowners and Atelier Wagner Architects to carefully navigate the heritage overlay requirements, ensuring that the design honored the house’s rich history while updating its amenities for contemporary needs.
Our team transformed the original two-bedroom home into a spacious four-bedroom family residence, seamlessly integrating original elements such as bluestone footings and bricks with striking modern finishes and black metal accents—creating a compelling contrast that highlights the harmony of old and new.
Selected through a competitive tender process for our expertise in heritage and terrace renovations, we demonstrated exceptional project management in an inner-city environment, handling challenges like traffic management, neighbor relations, and complex stormwater solutions with precision. Despite obstacles such as limited access and excavation difficulties, our team’s innovative solutions and dedication led to a successful completion during COVID-19, earning recognition in the industry—including a feature in a local publication and an architecture award nomination.

Our engagement began with routine maintenance, but over six months, it evolved into a comprehensive renovation that redefined the client’s home. We collaborated closely with the homeowners and architect Kate Finning to translate innovative design concepts into practical, achievable solutions, ensuring the project maintained clarity and precision throughout.
Our team’s practical expertise was instrumental in making complex architectural plans feasible, particularly through strategic ideas like opening up the bathroom window and carefully preserving original features. We demonstrated integrity, honesty, and a client-focused approach in finding cost-effective solutions that balanced aesthetic appeal with durability and functionality.
In managing the intricate logistics of Melbourne’s inner-city environment, we maintained positive neighborhood relations and navigated challenges such as limited access and structural adjustments with professionalism and tact. Key technical recommendations, including restumping and optimal skylight placement, contributed significantly to the success of the project.
The transformation resulted in a warmer, brighter, and structurally sound home—an inviting family haven that now offers improved natural light, comfort, and enduring quality. We set the team a difficult challenge to balance an Architectural Extension and with a Heritage Restoration overlay all in one. Given the task of turning an original 1890's townhouse 2 bedroom into a high end modern 4-bedroom 2 bathroom, on a tight block, and to stay within budget!
They were able to navigate the stringent guidelines from the Architect, City of Yarra and Heritage Victoria to build an amazing home for us. No task was too big or too small and included being asked to build with:
a combination of brickwork, large format porcelain panels and metal claddinginstall new-to-market features including a unique dual sided fireplacefloor to ceiling windows and doorsrestoration of heritage archwayslaying of new blackbutt timber floorsexcavation and drainagepolished flooring and upstand walls to maximiseintegrating modern fittings and fixturesextreme detail in textured joinery throughout the whole houseoversee landscaping including paving, metal canopies, and architectural greenery
More importantly they were easy to deal with, kept the site on schedule and safe/tidy at all times, and stuck to budget. Any obstacles were met with a can-do attitude. For us it was important to be involved in the project and site manager Anthony kept us up to date with daily check ins which included proactive suggestions on balancing design with functionality.
The boys were great to work with and brought energy and humor to the worksite and were always there on time. The complete opposite to tradesman we had experienced in the past.
We cannot recommend the A-Team enough for their building and management services. 10/10.”

Since then we have had the pleasure of Josh, Anthony and their team of not only completing that job quickly and to such a high standard that we have also used them on a few other projects, one of which required an extension and some expansive decks, and another that was a whole house high-end renovation.

For the past 4 years Anthony and Josh have been my number one go to carpenters for all my jobs. Not only have they been involved in the carpentry work they have also managed my sites whilst I was overseas. From organising trades, dealing with clients and ordering materials they did it all.
In 2016 the A-team involved in constructing 4 town houses in Boronia and a Chemist renovation and fit out in St. Kilda. With two renovations and a new build in Rowville the year before to name a few.
