Award-Winning Builders: Our 2026 Master Builders Recognition
A-Team Builders has been named Winner of Best Renovation/Addition $750,000 to $1 Million at the Master Builders Victoria 2026 Excellence in Housing Awards, for Bridge House in Carlton North.
The same project is now a National Finalist in the Master Builders Australia National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards. North Street and Newry Street were also nominated at this year's MBV awards, following Canning Street's nomination in 2025.
THE WINNING PROJECT
Bridge House, Carlton North
Winner, Best Renovation/Addition $750,000 to $1M. Designed by Atelier Wagner Architects (David Wagner).
Bridge House is the full renovation of a Victorian home on a bluestone laneway in Carlton North, keeping the original period detailing at the front and adding a contemporary rear extension. Designed by Atelier Wagner Architects (David Wagner) and built by A-Team, it was named the winning project at the Master Builders Victoria awards night at the Crown Palladium in October 2026.
Curved glass is not a detail you draw lightly. Getting a frame of that radius to seal, run and keep working took setting out on site rather than off the drawing, and all of it came in off a laneway with restricted access. Winning this category recognises the craftsmanship our carpenters, trades and project team bring to every stage of a build.
The details that set it apart
An architectural bridge connecting the original living room, now an art studio, to the rest of the home
A curved glazed corner and slatted timber screen wrapping the central courtyard
Exposed curved steel beams that give the home its bold character
A kitchen with custom light oak cabinetry, natural stone benchtops and integrated appliances
Morris & Co wallpaper in the dining room and custom timber joinery in the living area
An upstairs main bedroom with full-height joinery, open bookshelving, an ensuite and a separate powder room

Nominated as National Finalist
Off the back of its Victorian win, Bridge House has been nominated as a National Finalist in the National Renovations/Extensions Award, $750,000 to $1 Million category of the Master Builders Australia National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards.
The national awards bring together the best projects from every state and territory. Winners will be announced in November 2026, and we will share the result here.

North Street
2026 MBV Nominee, Renovation of the Year under $500,000. Completed February 2025.
The owners wanted their home modernised without losing its historic character. No heritage overlay required it, so keeping it was a decision, and it is the reason the house still reads as what it was. We renovated the existing weatherboard home and added a rear extension with matching cladding and roofing, tied together by a return verandah with timber slat detailing over a patterned tiled porch.
Inside, an olive-green kitchen with a teal glazed tile splashback opens onto living and dining with a built-in banquette and open bookshelving. A four-metre swim spa was craned into the rear courtyard, and our suggestion to widen the hallway using bedroom space changed how the whole house works.
Newry Street
2026 MBV Nominee, Renovation of the Year under $500,000. Completed February 2025.
A full renovation paired with a first floor addition, reworking the existing footprint into an open family home. The rear of the house was lifted into a raked ceiling, with a triangular clerestory set above the glazed doors so light arrives from above the sightline instead of straight into it.
The open-plan kitchen and living space has a terracotta tiled splashback, brass tapware and porcelain tile benchtops under a vaulted ceiling with paired skylights. Travertine, terracotta tile and unlacquered brass are held to one palette across the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry.
Newry Street
2025 MBV Nominee, Renovation of the Year under $500,000
A Victorian terrace built hard to the boundary, renovated and extended without losing what was already there. The original ceiling roses, fireplaces and decorative tiles were all kept. Aged walls were propped and the foundations reinforced before any new work went up, and high-line windows, raked ceilings and skylights brought light into a plan that had very little of it.
